It was a long tough battle, but Harley Davidson finally prevailed upon the powers that be to put a stop to this cut throat war on American bikes. After the tariff laws were revised, Harley Davidson motorcycles once again resumed their rightful place as the motorcycle of choice for Americans. They were not disappointed either, because Harley continued to be the top innovator in the field. They introduced belt drive motorcycles early in the 1980s, and these eventually became the standard for all Harleys. The company also brought out several new motorcycles in this decade, like the FXWG Wide Glide, the FLT, the FXR/FXRS Super Glide II, and the Softail, as well creating the V2 Evolution engine.
